The Writing Block

The Writing Block is a six-week accountability workshop designed to assist writers in completing their short-term writing projects. The course provides a safe space for authors and poets to progress on their short stories, novel chapters, essays, poems, or scripts, while gaining writing tips and peer-to-peer feedback.

Carry the Culture

"Carry the Culture: Using (Folk)lore to Preserve Collective Identity" is a six-week online writing workshop to aid in the preservation of cultural and collective identity through the discovery and exploration of folklore. Participants will learn what folklore is, how to research and find their own folklore traditions, and have the opportunity to conceive of one or more creative writing project(s) based on its tradition. Class concludes with online readings, including invited guests for Juneteenth.

RIDDIM & RIME: Poetry of Sound

This one-day, online poetry workshop is inspired by Kamau Brathwaite’s phrase, “the hurricane does not roar in iambic pentameters.” The course focuses on understanding and introducing soundscape into the poetic wordscape based on cultural experience. Between close reading and practice, poets will explore poetry in the realm of sound.
