About the Course
To prepare for Kinsman Quarterly’s Iridescence Award and upcoming publication opportunities, we will offer 3 skills workshops to coach writers and poets through their writing submissions. This will be taught by senior editor and writing coach Monique Franz. The course is being offered because of requests, observed need, and the tremendous interest we have in the contest itself.
Our scoring standards will increase because we plan to publish an extraordinary anthology. Selecting refined work reduces our overall editing costs and improves our journal. We want to prepare authors to advance their chances to place as finalists and winners, but also to improve the quality of their work for submissions to any publication.
Similar to the “Strengthening Your Writing Submission” course, we’ll review KQ’s scoring system, however we will offer a preliminary score of your work and coach you on how to improve your piece before submission.
We will run the course several times to accommodate need. Spaces are limited for each course to ensure we can give your submission piece sufficient time for review.
Monique Franz, published playwright and novelist, is also the senior director of Kinsman Quarterly. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from Wilkes University, where she also taught community writing workshops.
